4Pretty darn good! Impressive inexpensive straightDec 18, 2009
By T. Schinell
If you're trying to find the most inexpensive and hassle-free way into straight razor shaving this is probably it. I'm not sure what the other guy said about getting the blade in and out, perhaps he didn't realize that the razor splits apart and slides open after you undo the "lock" on the spine. In fact, this is probably easier to load than a shavette and IMO sturdier as well. It feels more like a straight razor than a blade holder in that respect although not on the quality level of a Feather Artist for instance. At 1/4 the price you can hardly complain, although I think it can be found even cheaper if you shop around. I like the arabic writing on the side and the color scheme of the white handled model, looks really unique and has great character! Performance-wise with standard DE blades you can get almost anywhere and carefully snap in half it'll provide you with an equivalent shave to a top notch traditional straight razor without all the expense and variables associated with that. I've been there, done that and now this is my go-to razor due to the convenience and performance at a real-world price.

NOTE: If you've never shaved with a "straight" or open razor before there IS a big learning curve, be warned! You must make a good lather and STRETCH your skin with your free hand while you shave. You also must learn how to hold and move it the right way and at the correct angle. These are acquired skills through experience and research, do your homework on this!!

5Exellent Product!Feb 13, 2010
By Krisztopfyr Yakoim
I believe this product to be excellent for anyone considering to begin straight razor shaving! I used this product the day I received it in the mail. Being 18 and new to straight razor shaving, I was very inexperienced, and really did not know what the heck I was doing. I found the product very easy to use, and I managed to get the closest shave of my life, without cutting the heck out of my face! I will suggest that anyone using this product, or one like it, should take his time!!! If you try to hurry YOU WILL CUT YOURSELF! Make sure you have a good shave soap, and a brush, because canned shave creams will not cut it(no pun intended.)It would also be wise to purchase a styptic pencil (just in case you nick yourself and yes, you will nick yourself if you are not completely focused and careful. Make sure to also have a good moisturizing aftershave. Do yourself a little favor and do a little homework on straight razor shaving before you use the product, if you do not, you could make silly little mistakes that will cause you to nick yourself, or worse. ALSO, make sure you use a new blade every time you use the product. If you do not you will get a RAZOR BURN like you have never experienced before. All in all I believe the product to be a GREAT way to start straight razor shaving and I recommend it without an ounce of hesitation!

5Great ProductDec 10, 2009
By Mark W. "Mark W"
I love this combination of razor and blades. Replacable blades make this a much easier product to use than having to sharpen a traditional straight edge razor. The product is a fraction of the cost of the DOVO shavette and still comes with 120 blades. Also a superior shave to the Dovo in my opinion with these blades. A great deal all around.

5A little bit of pleasure of pain all wrapped up in one.Jul 25, 2010
By D. Couse "darkman1969"
I was getting more and more fed up with the "big boys" of shaving charging outrageous prices for blade replacements. Some are now up near $20 for 4 blades...are you freakin' kidding me? So I went looking for alternatives and this is where I ended up.

If you have never shaved with one of these before then heed the advice of all on here who have. Take your time and pay attention to what you are doing or you will shave off half your face. I had never used one and hadn't done my research on how to properly use it. Man, did I and my face pay the price. I have upwards of 10 cuts and was bleeding everywhere. These blades are sharper than anything I've ever used. Including fresh razors from the big boys.

For my skin that wasn't oozing blood, it was smoother than anything I can remember. I mean like tingly smooth.

I waited a day before I attempted half my face this time and all went much, much better. Not a nick to be had. What I did different was take my time and educate myself on how to use this thing. There are couple of great videos on YouTube. Just search "straight edge razor" and you can watch the experts do it.

I'm still nervous, but believe I can get the best shave blood free with this razor soon. Reading up online, I've learned if you do it well enough, it can actually last 2 or 3 days before you need to shave again. The blades will last you 2 or 3 shaves so the savings will be piling up.

Be careful with this thing. It's like that guy from the show Queer Eye for the Straight Guy on grooming. This isn't a race. It's not like mowing your lawn. Take your time, pay attention and go slow. I think instead of about a 2 minute shave with the safety razors, this will now take me upwards of 8 to 10 minutes until I get going. I don't think I will ever get past 5 minutes a shave, but let me tell you what, the smoothness is incredible. Just be careful when you splash aftershave after you use this. I'm pretty sure your neighbor can hear you scream.

The product itself seems nice. I chose this one over the all metal one as I didn't care for the arabic scribble over it. The handle is plastic and it definitely feels plastic. Not quite cheap, just plastic.

Overall, very satisfied as long as my face will allow me to master this craft, I will continue to use it.

3Sharp!Apr 08, 2011
By Bud
I was looking for a straight razor to make a couple of very precise lines, between my nose and moustache, and below my bottom lip above my "soul patch." This razor, with replaceable blades, is indeed very sharp and does the job adequately. If I had to do it over again, though, I would look instead for a one-piece blade you strop to keep sharp. The "clamp," if you will, the part that holds the single-edge blade in place, of this razor is too thick too near the actual blade edge, blocking my view of where the blade is touching my skin.
