5Nice razor!!!Sep 04, 2009
By Todd
The Parker 96R is an excellent razor, the weight of the razor is just perfect for shaving so you don't need to press hard to get a close shave ...just use the weight of the razor. The knurled handle is very comfortable to hold and keeps the razor from slipping in your hands. This razor is very well built. I recently switched from using the Mach 3 razor to the safety razor due the outrageous cost of the Mach 3 blades.

I was very surprised how easy it is to shave with a safety razor, I had expected several nicks and cuts the first time and was very pleased to find the shaving experience with a safety razor to be far easier and more smooth than with a Mach 3 blade. The razor seems to find the correct angle against your skin almost naturally to provide the proper shaving angle.

My face is very thin and I typically have irritation around my neck when shaving with any other type of razor including electric razors when shaving around the Adam's Apple due to the different angles, with this razor it is very easy to shave around the contours of your face a neck and have a clean shave with no irritation due the extreme sharpness of the blades.

The Shark blades that came with the razor seem to be of a very excellent quality as well, and have remained sharp even when shaving through a couple of days growth of beard, I will be purchasing these blades in the future when needed.

My overal experience with a Double Edge Safety Razor has been a very pleasing experience and I would recommend this razor to anyone that is looking for a smooth clean shave at a very reasonable price. Just remember...shave slow with short strokes the first time to avoid any problems until you get the hang of using these types of razors, after your third time you will enjoy the experience greatly.

5Parker 96R Open Double Edge RazorAug 27, 2009
By D. Tyson
My Gillette adjustable razor that I've had for 25 years finally wore out. You can no longer by these at the grocery or drug store and the ones I've seen on ebay are very expensive. Looking on Amazon I came across a bunch of double edge razors. The Parker 96R resembled the old Gillete and the price was reasonable. When I recieved it I was very pleased with the weight and quality of the razor. Being a wet shavor since I started shaving it only took one shave with the Parker to get used to it, been shaving everyday and I am very happy with it. Another reason I like the older double edge razors is the price of blades. Although I haven't had a chance to use the blades the razor came with I have been buying them at Walmart for $1.67 for 10. The newer fancy razors (that look like spaceships) are half the price of the Parker but the blade refills are very expensive thus the extra cost of the parker is justified by the price of the blades. Overall I'm very happy with this product.

5Wow.. and semi-scientific comparisonsJan 25, 2010
By D. Garsys
I decided to give the whole DE-shaving thing a try. After looking around, I ended up buying the Parker 96R razor because it reminded me of my dad's gillette from waayyyy back. I also ordered a 10-pack of Sharks (came with the Razor), a 10-pack of Merkur blades, and a 25-pack of Derby blades.

First note - the razor is solid, with a comfortable heft. It also closes up well - though not quite perfectly on both sides - and holds the blades nice and straight while making it trivial to pop a blade in or out.

As to the razors, my impressions after trying out (almost) 2 each. This was to ensure that impressions I had weren't just due to being a tyro. Even with the occasional nick, the shaves have been consistently close (except for the Merkur, I'd wake up the NEXT morning with a closer shave than I'd gotten out of some electrics).

Sharks - Nice, sharp, and I can get several shaves out of them before I start getting razor bumps, hair tugging, or "slips" due to the blade dulling.

Derby - just wow. Nicer, sharper, and not really more expensive. Very happy with them. I almost immediately felt like this blade just glided over my skin effortlessly shaving away my beard.

Merkur - perhaps it was just a matter of fit with the razor, but this is the only blade that consistently felt skittish, the one I consistently nicked myself with the easiest, and the only one I got razor bumps on the very. first. shave.

I actually ended up mentally rating the razors based on how many shaves before they started feeling like the "new" merkur blades - and were, IMO , unusable since I'd start getting the razor bumps from my cartridge days.

5Ingrown hairs are gone.Mar 12, 2010
By TM
I used cartridge razors my whole life and thought that the ingrown hairs I suffered were due to my curly hair. Then I read about a resurgence of classic safety razors and started to do some research. I was skeptical that a single blade could do a decent job; after all, didn't more blades mean a better shave? Not so, it turns out. Multi-blade razors do passable work on your face, but nothing like a well-made safety razor.

Since I wasn't sure if I would stick with a safety razor I didn't want to spend a lot of money on the initial setup. And there is some setup: a good brush (preferably badger) is a must, as is a good quality shaving soap. You certainly don't want to get a cheap razor, either, and that's what led me to the Parker 96R. It doesn't have the pedigree of a Merkur or vintage Gillette, but it doesn't have their price, either. I read many conflicting things about the quality of Parker razors (which are made in India, BTW). I decided that for less than $30 I could take a chance, and I'm very happy with my choice. The 96R I received is very well made, and the included Shark razors are suitably sharp. The razor opens and closes with a nice, smooth motion and a precision feel. The blades are held securely and perfectly even on both sides. Also, the balance is just right and the handle length fits my hands well. I've seen that the majority of safety razors have a rather short 3" handle; I held one and it was so short I didn't have a feeling of confidence.

So now I'm a total convert to safety razor shaving. It takes longer and more concentration, but the payoff is a longer-lasting shave, less cost (in the long run), and best of all, my ingrown hairs are gone!

5Great RazorNov 29, 2009
By Jabbo "Johnny"
This is a well made razor that comes with some real sharp razor blades. This is not a fusion or Atra or any other kind of throw away safety razor. This thing is a no BS shave tool. You get a real close shave but make sure you have a styptic pencil handy because if you are too quick on the stroke, it will bite your face big time. You'll need some good after shave lotion also because the shave is so close I think it takes a layer of skin with it. Go slow and you'll get the best shave you've had in a long time, almost as good as a barber's straight razor.
