5A very nice razorDec 20, 2009
By Jooky
I received my Parker 82R a few weeks ago and have been shaving with it since it arrived. I really like this razor. It has a nice heft to it, and it has a nice long handle. The TTO feature works like a charm and I find that it gives me a close comfortable shave every time. My razor arrived in great condition and was packaged well for the trip. This razor also comes with 10 Shark Super Chrome blades and they are some of the sharpest smoothest blades I have used yet. All in all this is a great razor for somebody starting out with DE shaving, or a great razor for somebody that has been DE shaving for years. Highly recommended.

5A great productOct 12, 2009

I have used other razors and, to date, this is the cadillac of safety razors. I like the weight and controllability of this particular razor better than others I have used. It is the best product for the price. I highly recommend it.

5Excellent razorNov 06, 2009

This is an excellent razor. It is very well made and it gives a very good shave, especially with the Shark blades. The lined handle makes the razor easy to grip, and the razor is very heavy, thus allowing you to apply very little pressure during the shave -- the razor just sort of glides over your face but still shaves very close. The twist-to-open mechanism makes blade changing extremely easy. Considering the price of the razor, this is an excellent value.

4Parker 82R Safety Razor, WORKS!!May 20, 2010
By Sub Nuke
Excellent product!! Razor is well made, fit and finish are excellent, has a good solid feel, handle is plenty long enough and the butterfly feature operates smoothly every time.

Smooth, comfortable shave; blades don't get clogged with whiskers and soap. Refills are cheap, (approximately 15 cents a blade). I read all the reviews of double edge razors and wet shaving before I took the plunge to ensure I was as informed as possible; glad I switched. Fusion refills are $3.00 each, a pack of store brand double edge blades is $1.54 for ten blades.

I reccomend you do your first shaves on a weekend so you aren't rushed. Take a shower first, wet your face with warm water and a brush (type is up to you) and lather up. Shave slowly and remember don't press down, let the weight of the razor do the work. It will take a day or two to get used to the new razor and not hurrying helps. I used to take about two minutes to shave, now it is about five minutes without rushing.

I haven't had any problems with scrapes, razor burn or nicks that other folks have mentioned. Not sure if it is because I read all the reviews first or if I'm just lucky. I have used canned shaving cream and a brush and shaving soap, and have tried the included Shark blades as well as two different dept store brands. All worked well for me with no discernable differences.

2Misalignment = CutsSep 26, 2010

So I've noticed that many reviews for double-edge safety razors on Amazon spend a lot of time extolling the virtues of traditional wetshaving over the absurd pentabladed sandpapering rituals that Gillette is guilty of monetizing. This is the intellectual equivalent of giving a book a five rating because reading is better for you than teevee. So while the wetshave has changed my life, I sadly have to report that this specific razor does not make the cut.

Or rather, it makes too many. See, that's sort of the problem.

The butterfly enclosure isn't properly aligned; one of the individual wings is cocked ever so slightly along the length of the razorhead. Blades, as a result, are pulled askew. When blades sit diagonally against your face, rather than lying flush or parallel, you are liable to scratch yourself. Many times.

A relative owns a Parker with a similar problem. He remedies the issue by making sure the wings are fully opened before he begins to screw them shut. This workaround didn't change anything with my razor, unfortunately.

I did like the heft a lot. I wasn't a fan of the Sharks, but that's what blade samplers are for.

Based on the conversations I've had, I don't think that all the razors in this line, or even that *all* Parkers are necessarily defective...but enough are to make buying into their stuff a bit of a gamble, albeit at a lower price point. That can be problematic when you're trying to invest in a precision instrument, but it's on you to make the call. More money for a sure thing, or a chance at getting something just as good at a lower price?

Me, I'm going to try switching to a different manufacturer.
