When the hair stylest that I bought this from said that you only used 3-4 drops of oil for my whole face and that it would give me a the best shave I have ever had I was a bit skeptical. However, she was dead on. This product is fantastic. After washing your face with hot water, you put 4 drops in your hand, and use 2 fingers to massage it in in. After waiting about 20 seconds your face will start to tingle. Then, just shave with your razor. It does take some getting used to not being able to clearly see the shave lines like you would with regular shaving cream, but it does not take long getting used to. In addition, it leaves your face moisterized with no need for aftershave lotion. I get much less razor burn with this product and although it is a oil product, no problems with breakouts. Highly recommend.

I recently switched to shaving with a safety razor after hearing about how much closer of a shave you get and the much lower long run cost for blades. When I started, I was just using shaving cream and I would occasionally get an uncomfortable shave and some skin irritation. I had heard about shaving oil and decided to give it a try. I found a few websites that recommended this product and so I ordered a bottle and it has made a huge difference. I am able to get an amazingly close shave with no nicks or cuts and most importantly, no irritation at all.
I ideally try to either shower with hot water, use a hot towel on my face, or at the very least splash my face with hot water before shaving to soften up the hairs. I then use just a few drops of this oil, don't need much at all, and let it soak into my beard to further soften it. I then splash some more hot water and then lather up with shaving cream on top of the oil. I have seen people say you can shave with just the oil but I find that the oil and shaving cream combo makes for a smoother, closer shave. I then shave as I normally would.
The oil seems to act as a lubricant to allow the blade to slide over the skin and also softens up the hair to allow the blade to cut them easier; I noticed the biggest difference when shaving against the grain. The oil also seems to protect the skin much better and has greatly reduced the number of cuts and especially the irritation. It also smells great and I have found that I have no need for aftershave anymore since using this product. I have noticed that the oil can cause the razor to become "clogged" easier and so requires more frequent washing under running water during the shave but I don't consider that a big deal. Also, the bottle shown in the picture on Amazon is not the bottle I received, mine had a flat top which makes getting the oil out a little more messy and I usually end up with oil all over the front of the bottle. It seems like the bottle design pictured would be much better. Overall though I have been extremely satisfied with this product and with the quality of shave I get by using it.

Ok.. the good part...
This works great.. I love shaving with shaving oils.. it smells clean and fresh..
The down side.. is it really worth more than 'Shave Secret' ... Shave secret works about the same smells a little different but is a lot more cheap...
So 4.5 stars for shave... could it be better .. I dunno.. hoping to find a 5 someday.
For price... I dunno .. I guess a 2.5 ... take 5 bucks off and it goes up 2 stars.. but until then .. it gets an overall 3 star rating..

I bought this product because I'd used pre-shaving shave oil before to use under my regular shaving cream and it worked well. American Crew's shaving oil is a bit expensive compared to King of Shaves shaving oil, and they both work the same. Them main differences are the smell (American Crew has a very pleasant smell) and the container (King of Shaves's container is much better!)
As others have already stated, the container used is horribly designed! When putting a couple of drops on my palm the oil leaks a bit on the side making for a slippery bottle next time you use it. I also have to scotch tape it closed when I travel with it because otherwise it could easily open up in my toiletry bag and spill everywhere. The Amazon pic shows a screw-top but if you order it, it'll come with a snap-top, which works horribly.
When I run out of of this shaving oil I'll probably go back to the King of Shaves one because of the container.

I have been a long time user of American Crew Essential Shave oil. I love the product. This time I got the new FLAT bottle and I don't seem to like the FLAT bottle. When you try to pour a few drops of shave oil the flat lid design seem to make the liquid go over the lid and it does not drip easily. I have been experimenting with different angles of pouring and still have the problem. My grouse is againt the flat top design and not the product (shave oil). I hope that American Crew will get rid of the flat bottle and revert back to the small tip cap.
