Great RazerJan 24, 2011
By Andrew J. Hilger This is a great razer. I ordered the one with the black handle. It came really quick and I was eager to use it right away. The thing to keep in mind with a straight razer though is that none of them come "ready to shave" as the last reviewer thought. You either have to take it to a shop to get sharpened or sharpen it yourself. But a good sharp straight razer makes shaving a lot more fun, and less of a chore.
Great first straight razorNov 19, 2011

The edge was good although it needs to be honed it can shave tho. but not good enough to shave against the grain.
Great starter razor!Jul 20, 2011
By Jotaro Ishikawa Great starter razor. The round tip is very forgiving. Even though this is the cheapest Dovo out there, it's still a Dovo. It takes and holds an edge beautifully and gives a great shave.
A word of advice, you can probably try shaving with it as is, but you might find it a bit tugging. I recommend going to one of the straight razor enthusiast forums (use your google-fu) and find a "honemiester" to sharpen it up to its full potential. DO NOT take it to your run-of-the-mill knife grinder or you will ruin it-- This is not a kitchen knife!

WarpedMar 30, 2010
By Alex McCarthy I purchased this razor (the white one) a few months ago, and it stated that it was shave ready. This was the very first straight razor that I've ever had. I used it, and learned how to NOT cut myself. I learned to strop a bit, then after having a few un-comfortable shaves, and a BUNCH of missed whiskers - I decided to purchase a jewelers' loupe, and check out what everything looked like up close. To my surprise, the razor only had a sharpened/beveled edge on half of one side, and half of the other side! It was sharp on the center "half" of one side, then the outside "half's" of the other side. It just didn't have a full edge on it on either side. Now that I know what it looks like up close, I can actually tell with the naked eye. I didn't know to look for things like that before.
This has now become my "learn to hone" razor, I used what is called a "bread-knife" technique on this blade, and I'm starting over from scratch to see if I can produce an even bevel. I have purchased another straight razor for now, so I can get back to learning to use one.
